Medical Coder III

The primary duties of a Medical Coder III are to review clinical documentation and assign medical codes for inpatient facility and/or professional service.  May be tasked to assign medical codes for facility and/or professional services for ambulatory surgery, observation, emergency department, or outpatient clinic services.  

Education:  An associate’s degree in Health Information Management; or (transcript required) at least 30 semester hours’ university/college credit that includes relevant coursework such as anatomy/physiology, medical terminology, health information management, and/or pharmacology, or successful completion of an AAPC or AHIMA coding certification preparation course (proof required) for professional services or facility coding that includes medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, health information management concepts, and pharmacology. 

Credential:  Must have at least one: RHIT; RHIA; CPMA; CPC; COC; or CCS-P    AND

At least one of these: CIC, CCS 

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of medical coding and/or auditing experience in 2 or more medical, surgical and ancillary specialties within the past 10 years.  Required experience must include Medical Severity - Diagnostic Related Group (MS-DRG) assignment.  A minimum of one (1) year of performance in the specialty is required to be qualifying. Multiple specialties encompass different medical specialties (i.e. Family Practice, Pediatrics, Gastroenterology, OB/GYN, etc.) that utilize ICD, E&M, CPT, and HCPCS codes. Ancillary specialties (PT/OT, Radiology, Lab, Nutrition, etc.) that usually do NOT use E&M codes do not count as qualifying experience. Additionally, coding, auditing and training exclusively for specialties such as home health, skilled nursing facilities, and rehabilitation care will not be considered as qualifying experience. Coding experience limited to making codes conform to specific payer requirements for the business office. Must pass a pre-employment coding test.

Proof of immunizations is required.   MUST obtain a government security clearance.

Customer Service/Call Center – Healthcare Plans

This assignment will take place in a Client facility in Virginia Beach, VA.  Customer Service Representatives will provide accurate plan benefit education and resolution of questions or concerns for telephone calls and email inquiries from members and providers. Provide comprehensive and timely follow through on calls requiring additional action. Work closely with the claims, appeals, provider relations, finance, client services and care management departments to resolve customer issues as appropriate. Maintain professional a customer oriented service both verbal and written communications. Develop skills to answer inquiries in a professional manner (appropriate grammar, courteous tone, control of call, etc.). This is a high volume call center, where strong communication and phone skills are required. 

This is a full-time, 40 hour per week.  You could be given a schedule within the working hours of 7a-6p.
